The National Information & Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) is the Government Agency responsible for the regulation and licensing of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Papua New Guinea. By virtue of the National Information and Communication Technology Act 2009, NICTA has assumed all relevant ICT functions and powers from the Independent Consumer & Competition Commission (ICCC) and effectively replaces its precursor 'PANGTEL - Papua New Guinea Telecommuncation Authority.

The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.
NICTA promotes "World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD)"
PNG, represented by NICTA, is a Member country of the ITU and as such we are obliged to pursue and promote the goals and programs of the ITU. With the support of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), NICTA is promoting this year’s theme of the WTISD on ICTs and Improving Road Safety.
