2025 World Children’s Day Commemoration

On this World Children’s Day, observed on November 20th, NICTA reasserts its dedication to safeguarding the rights of every child in Papua New Guinea. This day serves as a global reminder of the importance of protecting children’s rights and promoting their well-being in all aspects of life.

The theme for this year, “My Day, My Rights to a Safe and Responsible Digital Future,” emphasize the critical role of digital safety and responsibility. It aligns closely with NICTA’s mission as the primary regulator overseeing consumer protection within the ICT sector. As children increasingly engage with digital platforms, it is essential to address both the opportunities and risks associated with this digital environment.

Children today are growing up immersed in a digital world that offers numerous opportunities for learning, social interaction, and entertainment. However, this digital landscape also presents potential dangers, including online harassment, exposure to inappropriate content, and privacy violations. Recognizing these challenges, NICTA emphasizes the importance of ensuring that children are protected, respected, and empowered online.

To support parents, guardians, and communities in navigating these challenges, NICTA has developed a Parents’ Guide. This guide aims to increase awareness of children’s rights in digital spaces, provide practical advice on protecting children from online harm, and promote responsible digital citizenship.

The key objectives of this initiative include:

  • Raising awareness about children’s rights in digital environments.
  • Educating parents and caregivers on effective strategies to protect children from online risks.
  • Encouraging responsible digital behavior to foster a safer online community.

We invite everyone to join us in building a future where children can explore the digital world confidently and securely. The NICTA Parents’ Guide is available for download, providing basic practical steps for safeguarding children online. You can access it here:
