NICTA Conducted Routine Inspection

The National Information & Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) yesterday carried out a routine inspection in Port Moresby, proactively reinforcing its commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring license holders comply with set rules and regulations.

The inspection was led by the Enforcement and Compliance team, consisting of NICTA Inspectors. NICTA Chief Executive Officer, Polume Lume, joined the exercise.

Mr. Lume’s presence highlighted NICTA’s firm position on enforcement and compliance, sending a strong message to the ICT industry that all radio device dealers must obtain a Radio Dealer Limited (Full) licence to sell ICT equipment and devices that are type-approved by NICTA.

The inspection focused on ensuring that businesses selling ICT apparatus were compliant with valid Radio Dealer Licenses (RDL) and that all equipment on sale was properly type-approved by NICTA for use in Papua New Guinea.

As part of its mission, NICTA continues to prioritize consumer protection while fostering collaboration with businesses to meet regulatory standards. This approach emphasizes working closely with dealers to ensure they are properly informed of type-approval requirements.

It also ensured that all radio dealers were compliant with their licence conditions, NICTA Radio Regulations, and the Act.

This inspection forms part of NICTA’s ongoing nationwide efforts to promote responsible use of ICT equipment, safeguard consumers from unapproved devices, and maintain a fair and compliant marketplace.

NICTA also encouraged all ICT equipment resellers, including mobile phone vendors, to adhere to licensing conditions and seek support where needed to ensure full compliance.
