Digital Broadcasting and Digital Dividend

Consultative Paper

Variation of Television Broadcasting Bands

In accordance with sections 169 and 218 of the National ICT Act 2009 (“the Act”), NICTA intends to vary the Television Broadcasting Bands in the PNG Spectrum Plan. This is in line with global efforts to digitalise broadcasting services and free up the 698 – 806 MHz Band, commonly known as “digital dividend”.

NICTA has prepared the Discussion Paper on the subject matter and is now engaging in public consultation as required by s.229 of the Act. Current and prospective spectrum users that may be affected by the proposed variation and the public in general are invited to submit their comments.

The draft document is available on the NICTA website at www.nicta.gov.pg and at the NICTA Head Office at the corner of Frangipani Street and Croton Street, Hohola, NCD. Written submissions should be addressed to: pyokope@nicta.gov.pg or Acting Manager Resource Planning, P O Box 8227, Boroko 111, NCD, facsimile: 300 4829.

NICTA will upload comments it receives and the final instrument in its Public Register on its website. Respondents can request for particular aspects of their submission to remain confidential as prescribed in s.44 of the Act.

The deadline for comments is close of business 30 December 2011.
