In line with the National Government’s aspirations to empower our women and girls as equal contributors to national development, and consistent with the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) objective to increase the number of women/girls pursuing STEM careers, NICTA launched the NICTA Girls in ICT Tertiary Scholarship Programme in 2013. This is a fully funded scholarship for girls, which covers tuition fees, boarding and lodging, textbooks and stationary allowances, fortnightly stipends and travel expenses for the duration of the program. Since implementation of the Scholarship, NICTA is proud to say that it has so far supported the education of 32 young women, take up ICT related field of study of which 11 since graduated and 16 are still at university.
